"Ike" Silver Dollars

So I've been trying my hand at prospecting by checking local banks for halves and Ike silver dollars. NO ONE has any halves - which is frustrating. :banghead: But I've managed to pull about 130 Ikes and am now trying to value them.
I've read several posts here and even gone through links that were supplied to other websites.
I must be missing something because I'm still confused. Here's what I have so far:
  • Ike's were made from 1971-1978
  • They were produced in San Fran, Denver and Philly
  • Only the coins from San Fran (i think) were 40%

So I feel like I'm at a loss here as I'm staring at these coins. If what I said above is true, then anything with a "D" mint mark is worth only face value - true?

So if anyone can shed any light or point me to any info, I'd appreciate it. Am hoping for a site with close up pics of the coins - if there is no such thing, maybe I can provide some once I crack the code on these Ikes...

Thanks much!

This is the link for the 40% Silver coins you were asking about.

Quote:

All of the silver "Ike" coins were minted at the San Francisco Mint in 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, and 1976. These coins were either uncirculated or proof. Uncirculated coins came in cellophane with a blue plastic token in a blue envelope. Proof issues came in a proof set-like plastic case in a fancy brown wood colored box with a gold seal on back. The uncirculated coins are referred to as 'Blue Ikes' and the proofs as 'Brown Ikes'. Coins minted in 1975 and 1976 for the Bicentennial come with the quarter and the half dollar of that year. The uncirculated coins were sold by the Mint for three dollars; the proof version for ten dollars. Two varieties of the dollar were produced in 1976 and can be distinguished by the thickness of the lettering.

I have a bunch of the "blue" ones if anybody wants them. I had to buy a bag of them to get the 6 1883 morgans that came with them.

Is there any value over scrap for circulated silver Ike's?

They are showing lot's of copper. Definitely not collector type material.

They are great for "Tooth Ferry" activities.....to a little kid...they look like a dinner platter. It is also cool to take to Quarter/Dime/Nickle poker night.....Ike's and Kennedy Halves are cool to toss around...feels nearly like real money.

We have not had to do the tooth ferry thing here yet.....we'll probably use Silver Eagles.

Hell - some GIM'ers might show up sleeping on my floor with a pocket full of teeth if that word get's around.....

Regular circulated IKES are only worth $1-$1.05. Some coin dealers will buy them for .05 over but most of them won't.

I would try doing small lots on ebay. I know a guy who is making $3 for every $20 he sells on there (after fees). Not worth it to me, but maybe it is to you.

If anyone has 40% IKE's for sale PM me with a price. They do NOT have numismatic value to me....
